Frequently Asked Questions About Physical Therapy

Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy?

In most cases, yes. Medicare and most insurance plans require a physician's referral for physical therapy. We can help coordinate with your doctor to obtain the necessary orders.

How long will I need physical therapy?

The duration varies based on your condition and goals. Some patients need 4-6 weeks, while others with more complex conditions may need longer. We'll discuss your expected timeline during your evaluation.

What should I wear to therapy sessions?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. For lower body issues, shorts are helpful. For upper body issues, a short-sleeved shirt is recommended.

Will physical therapy hurt?

Therapy should not cause severe pain. Some discomfort is normal as you work on strengthening and stretching, but we'll work within your comfort level and adjust exercises as needed.

Do you provide equipment like walkers or canes?

Yes, we can assess your need for assistive devices and help you obtain the appropriate equipment. We'll also train you on how to use it safely.
